Apparently, advancing years often bring increased contentment. An article in the NYTimes of 7/14/08 summarizes the results of 50,000 interviews with Americans to see how they have changed over time. “One important finding was people who were biologically older are happier than younger adults,” said Tom Smith of the University of Chicago and director of the survey.
Research found that people older than 65 had not always been happy. It was being older that led to the contentment that most of them felt. It is counter to most people’s expectations,” Dr. Smith said.
